New Jersey

New Jersey was founded in 1664 by Lord Berkley and Sir George Carteret. It was set up as a proprietary colony. New Jersey was nameda after George Carteret was from, The Isle of Jersey. They founded the colony because the Duke of York gave it to them because New York was to big to rule easily. New Jersey attracted many people from many countries. In 1702 it became a royal colony, a colony under the control of the English crown. In 1787 New Jersey approved the United States Constitution and became the thrid state of the United States of America.
